Remarkable Andover schoolboy takes on 100-mile charity challenge

An inspirational schoolboy from Andover is set to take on an ambitious new challenge this May, as he aims to walk 100 miles in just 31 days while raising awareness and funds for Breakthrough T1D UK.

Archie, who was named Young Person of the Year at last year’s Pride of Andover Awards, is no stranger to making a difference in his community. Now, he is turning his determination towards a cause close to his family’s heart.

The challenge will see Archie swap screen time for fresh air, ditching devices throughout the month in favour of exploring the world around him. From local walks to nature spots and community businesses, the initiative is as much about reconnecting with the outdoors as it is about completing the miles.

But this year’s effort carries even greater significance, as Archie will not be walking alone. His siblings will be joining him, transforming the challenge into a full family journey focused on togetherness, wellbeing and purpose.

Behind every step lies a powerful motivation. The family is raising awareness and vital funds for Breakthrough T1D UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those living with Type 1 Diabetes and funding crucial research into the condition.

Archie’s mum, Chloe Pearce, said: “We are very proud of Archie for challenging himself to raise funds and awareness for Breakthrough T1D. It is so special that this has become a family affair and we are very excited to share weekly updates via our business social media, Richard Pearce Wealth Management, as we are hoping to reach as many people as possible.

“The updates will include where we have been, key facts regarding Type 1 Diabetes, how the charity supports those living with the condition, and insights about what it is like living with someone with Type 1 Diabetes. We would also love to find and showcase local businesses, walks and nature spots, so we would love to hear suggestions from our community.”

Throughout May, supporters will be able to follow Archie’s progress with weekly updates, sharing the highs, the memories and no doubt a few tired legs along the way.

The community is being encouraged to get involved by donating, sharing the fundraiser and even suggesting local walking routes and hidden gems for the family to explore.

With every mile walked, Archie and his family hope to inspire others while making a meaningful difference — proving that every step truly counts. You can support Archie here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/100-miles-for-meaning-2026
