Residents Evacuated from Block of Flats Following Gas Leak

Residents have been evacuated from a block of flats in Clarence Court following a gas-related incident, with emergency services and gas engineers working to ensure the building is safe.

Over 40 flats are believed to be affected, with residents unable to return to their homes while safety checks are carried out.

Engineers from gas distribution company SGN are currently at the scene, taking readings from individual flats to assess the situation and determine whether it is safe for residents to re-enter the building.

Police have also attended the incident, with an area cordoned off while engineers carry out their work.

In a statement, police confirmed: “We are assisting SGN while they deal with a gas-related incident. Please contact SGN for further information.”

It is understood that engineers are now awaiting authorisation from a senior member of staff before the building can be declared safe.

Residents could face a wait of several hours before receiving confirmation about whether they will be allowed back into their properties.

The exact cause of the suspected gas leak has not yet been confirmed, and there is currently no indication of when residents will be able to return home.

Further updates are expected as SGN continues its investigations and safety assessments.

Love Andover will provide further information as it becomes available.
