Temperatures Soar as Glorious Sunshine Arrives for Bank Holiday

As temperatures soar across the region, residents are being encouraged to make the most of a glorious Bank Holiday weekend, with sunshine and soaring temperatures expected to continue well into next week.

Today will be very warm and dry, with plenty of sunshine developing through the afternoon, creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities, family gatherings and trips to local parks and beauty spots.

Tonight is expected to remain dry with largely clear skies and little to no cloud, making for a calm and pleasant evening.

Sunday will continue the settled spell of weather, becoming warm once again with widespread sunshine throughout the day. Forecasters say it will remain dry across the area with excellent conditions for those planning outdoor events or travel over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Looking ahead, Monday is set to bring wall-to-wall sunshine from morning until evening, with temperatures climbing further and conditions becoming hot in some places.

The sunny spell is expected to continue into Tuesday, with dry, hot weather remaining firmly in place. Wednesday will stay sunny and dry too, although a moderate southeasterly breeze is expected to develop, bringing slightly breezier conditions later in the week.

With many people expected to spend extended periods outdoors, health experts are reminding the public to stay safe in the sun during the hot weather.

How to stay safe in the sun

  • Apply sunscreen regularly, using at least SPF 30 with UVA protection.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting clothing along with a hat and sunglasses.
  • Try to stay in the shade during the hottest part of the day, typically between 11am and 3pm.
  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for a short period.
  • Check on elderly relatives, neighbours and vulnerable people during periods of hot weather.

Forecasters say the settled conditions are expected to continue for several days, making it one of the warmest and sunniest spells of the year so far.
