The community of Andover is mourning the loss of one of its most cherished figures, Dr Julian Lu Ming Chen, who passed away peacefully on 20th July, surrounded by his daughters.
Dr Chen, a well-respected dentist and the heart behind New Street Dental Care, had been living with cancer for the past five years – a journey he met with quiet courage, grace, and unwavering presence.
Known for far more than his skill and dedication in dentistry, Julian was a man whose warmth, wit, and boundless generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Whether it was through his professional care, his joyful presence on the dance floor, or his everyday acts of kindness, he brought light and laughter into countless lives.
Julian was not only a devoted father and proud family man, but also a deeply respected colleague and friend. His practice, built with love alongside his daughters Chloe and Clarissa, became a reflection of the values he lived by: compassion, integrity, and care that extended far beyond the dental chair.
A private funeral will be held for close family, by invitation only. In true Julian spirit, however, plans are underway for a memorial celebration – open to all – where those who loved him can come together to share stories, raise a glass, and, as he would have wished, dance until their feet hurt.
In a message from the family, they shared:
“We are heartbroken to share that Julian has passed, with his girls by his side. His network is wide and we may not be able to tell everyone personally, but we know how much he meant to so many. We ask for your privacy and support as we navigate the days ahead. There will be a time to honour him properly – for now, we are simply existing.”
Julian Chen’s legacy will live on not only in the many patients whose lives he transformed, but in the spirit of kindness, humour, and love he carried into every room. His presence will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
