An Andover charity set-up to help families of children with a life limiting disease is excited to welcome one of the world’s best guitarists as patron.
The Abel Foundation supports families with children suffering from Mitochondrial disease have today (19th January 2018) announced that Chris Britton from The Troggs has joined the organisation to help promote its range of services.
The 72-year old lead guitarist of the Andover band, famous for songs like Love is All Around and With a Girl Like You said, “The charity was set-up when little Abel Noakes, now 3 years old, was eventually diagnosed with the illness.
“Due to a lack of knowledge, information and support for him, his parents set up the charity to help him and other families.”
Mitochondrial Disease is a chronic, genetic disorder that means the mitochondria in cells are not producing enough energy. Sometimes they are not very efficient or simply do not work at all.
The disease often means that simple activities like walking or breathing can be difficult or completely impossible.
Britton who still lives in Andover is seen as a ‘guitar hero’ to many famous guitar players like Brian May of Queen. He will help the charity promote their activities which includes several high profile fundraising events through the year.
The charity is currently looking for volunteers to help with fundraising events and committee members/trustees to support the charity.
