Test Valley Community Services (TVCS) have successfully facilitated another ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) course.
The two-day course was delivered by Papyrus, the national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide. There were 29 attendees on the course that trains participants to reduce the immediate risk of suicide, increase support for a person at risk and to recognise what a person at risk may need from others to keep safe and get help.
Funding for the course was generously provided by everyday health plan provider Simplyhealth and three Hampshire County Councillors, Cllr Kirsty Locke, Cllr Martin Boiles and Cllr Andrew Gibson.
Cllr Kirsty Locke said “We are really pleased to be part funding this Applied Suicide Intervention Skills training course. It is of vital importance that youth and community leaders are able to spot the signs and ultimately save lives by preventing suicide.”
Colin Perry, spokesperson for Simplyhealth comments “The more we can do to encourage people to have early conversations with those who are most vulnerable is vital. We’re proud to support the ASIST course which helps to raise awareness of mental health in young people and encourage those who need it to seek the help they need.”
