A new remembrance garden, been set up in chantry centre to provide somewhere additional to show our respect. Given such a difficult time this year, and the inability to commemorate like we normally do. This is just an extra thing laid on to display for our town.
Nick Matthews says, “I’m going to purchase poppies, to lay on the ground! As we are unable to lay them, be interactive or be seen to be entering or touching things after Wednesday. Maybe residents may wish to “throw” poppies in to the garden over the coming next week!! Would be nice if we were able to “carpet” the area with poppies!! Let’s see what we can do as a town.”
Nicholas Davis has set up a Remembrance display in the former Ernest Jones unit in the The Chantry Centre – facilitated by Test Valley Borough Council. Following yesterday’s announcement there may now be more limited time to see it but if you’re in town then please do take a look. Lest we forget.

Councillor Phil North said: “I realise that this year is like no other, and therefore, sadly, our commemorations this Remembrance Sunday, are too. I feel it’s incredibly important to honour those who sacrificed so much for our freedom, this year, although I know how difficult it is for the communities around Test Valley not to be able to pay their respects in the way they would like to.
“However, I would encourage residents to take part in the national Royal British Legion pledge to come out on your doorstep at 11am and take part in the moment of silence, as we will all be across the country, not only in Test Valley”
