Winton Community Academy Year 10 catering students were invited to visit the kitchen and sample foods at the Queen Charlotte Pub in Andover by the manager, Victoria Thorp, recently.

The chef laid on a huge variety of different foods from their menu, from baked Camembert to bacon ketchup!

Students had fun sampling foods and looking at the presentation of the dishes and were then challenged by Victoria to design a dish, cost it, and design the presentation.

Victoria visited Winton Community Academy whilst the students cooked their dishes and prepared their tables aiming to win the opportunity to have their design featured on the menu in the Queen Charlotte.

Manager Victoria said“It was fantastic to see the students getting enthusiastic about food and enjoying creating their dishes. It was so difficult to pick a winner, so I decided to choose three dishes to showcase on our specials board.”

All of the y10 catering students were a credit to the school and took immense pride in their designs. They cooked with confidence and impressed both myself and Victoria” said Mrs King, Catering Teacher.

Year 10 student, Harrison Escudier, said “It was a new experience that as a catering GCSE student I will not forget.  This made me think more practically about what I am going to do in my future lessons.”
