Known as the Andover Link Main, the 25km pipeline will be capable of delivering up to 15 million litres of water a day once completed in 2030. The scheme is designed to strengthen drought resilience for Andover’s isolated water zone, ensuring the town and surrounding villages can rely on a stable supply during future dry spells and periods of peak demand.

The project also has an important environmental role to play. By drawing on additional sources of water, the new pipeline will reduce the strain on Hampshire’s chalk streams – some of the most ecologically valuable waterways in the country – helping to safeguard habitats for wildlife.

Southern Water is expected to put the contract for the scheme out to tender soon, with the job valued between £70m and £84m including VAT. It forms part of a wider £1bn programme of investment in Hampshire’s water network, which includes new reservoirs, water recycling initiatives, and network upgrades.
