Andover Foodbank Launches Christmas Appeal to Support Local Families

Andover Foodbank has launched its annual Christmas projects, providing festive Gift boxes for children and Hampers for individuals and families who are struggling to afford the essentials.

The charity, which works year-round to support people in crisis, extends its efforts during the festive season to ensure that those experiencing hardship can celebrate Christmas rather than simply endure it.

Each family supported by the Foodbank is also encouraged to meet with a Citizens Advice caseworker, who helps review debts and maximise income. At Christmas, the added support of hampers and children’s gift boxes can make all the difference.

One local care worker described the impact last year, saying: “The hampers allow our families to have a little bit extra as they are unable to afford treats or extra condiments, and the gift boxes allow them to ensure their children have gifts or a stocking.”

This year, the Foodbank is inviting the community to get involved in several ways:

  • Gift boxes: Fill a box with new items for a child. Boxes must be delivered by Friday 7 November 2025 to allow discreet distribution before Christmas.
  • Hampers: Take part in the 12 Days to Christmas project by adding one item a day for 12 days, or donate a complete Hamper. Hampers must be delivered by Sunday 23 November 2025.
  • Donations: A £20 donation funds a child’s Gift box, while £30 provides a festive Hamper. Contributions can be made securely online via the Foodbank’s website.

Annie Mihell, Secretary of Andover Foodbank, said:
“Every year we are humbled by the generosity of our community. And none of it would be possible without our amazing volunteers, who give their time to sort, pack and deliver every single box and hamper. Together, the kindness of local people and the dedication of our volunteers mean families can celebrate Christmas with dignity, joy and hope.”

The charity emphasises that its Christmas projects are only made possible thanks to the support of individuals, schools, churches, businesses and community groups, alongside its dedicated volunteers.
