All lines were closed for over 30 minutes shortly after 4.30pm, with services halted between Basingstoke, Andover, Bournemouth, Portsmouth Harbour, Southampton Central, and London Waterloo while emergency teams responded.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed:

“Officers were called just before 4.30pm on 9 November to reports of a person in a precarious position near Basingstoke railway station. Officers attended, and a woman was taken to a place of safety and received medical assistance.”

National Rail and South Western Railway (SWR) said all lines later reopened, but residual delays and cancellations continued throughout the evening, with disruption lasting until around 9pm.

Network Rail staff worked alongside BTP to isolate power to the affected tracks to ensure the safety of emergency crews during the response.
