As 2025 entered its final stretch, Andover experienced a powerful mix of new beginnings, long-awaited progress, outstanding achievements and extraordinary generosity. From High Street openings to festive fundraising, the final months of the year reflected a town still moving forward — together.
October – New openings, big wins and town-centre change
October was a month of momentum for Andover’s High Street and local talent.
Mid-month saw Vicolo Lounge officially open its doors on Wednesday 15 October, quickly establishing itself as one of the town’s newest hotspots. The opening brought fresh energy to the town centre, with strong early support from local residents.
More good news followed as plans were confirmed for Go Fudge Yo’self, set to open in the former Scope shop next door to CEX and EE — adding another independent business to the High Street mix.
October also marked a visible step forward in Andover’s regeneration, as demolition work began on the former Poundstretcher site, paving the way for the delivery of Andover’s new venue for The Lights.

There was relief for shoppers and staff alike as Poundland on Andover High Street remained open, despite earlier concerns it could close. After what many described as a turbulent period, a new deal with the landlord secured the store’s future — welcome news for employees and customers.
Not all town-centre issues were resolved, however. Frustration continued over the scaffolding surrounding the Ladbrokes building, which has now stood for more than three years. Originally installed as a safety measure, it has increasingly been seen as a long-term blot on the High Street, drawing criticism from residents, traders and visitors.
On the sporting stage, Andover celebrated a huge individual achievement as Charlie Guest fulfilled a lifelong dream by winning the ISKA World Muay Thai Championship on Sunday 5 October at the O2 Academy Bournemouth — a moment of immense pride for the town.

October was also a strong month for fundraising:
- The Foresters Arms Golf Society raised £2,178 for Countess of Brecknock Hospice at their charity golf day at Upavon Golf Club.
- A separate charity golf day in memory of Alan Potter, at High Post Golf Club raised an impressive £13,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
The month closed on a high note as the Pride of Andover Awards returned to The Lights on Wednesday 22 October, celebrating the individuals and groups who make Andover a better place to live, work and grow.

November – New nightlife and festive magic
November brought excitement, colour and festive cheer to Andover.
A brand-new chapter for the town’s nightlife began as Mamba Interactive Games Bar officially opened its doors. Blending interactive games, drinks and a lively social atmosphere, Mamba introduced a completely new night-out experience and quickly became a talking point.
Festive celebrations followed on Friday 21 November, as Andover Christmas Festival lit up the town centre. Ben Tuffin and Alun Grace took to the main stage, with the much-loved Big TV returning as the centrepiece of the evening. Crowds gathered to enjoy live performances, festive entertainment and the moment Andover officially welcomed the Christmas season.
December – Achievement, investment and incredible generosity
December showcased Andover’s spirit at its very best.
Local adventurer Jordan Wylie MBE reached a major milestone in his Antarctic Odyssey expedition, becoming the first recorded person in history to summit an unnamed, previously unclimbed Antarctic peak. The achievement was confirmed on Friday 5 December, marking an extraordinary moment on the world stage — with Andover proudly watching on.
Investment in local facilities was also confirmed as Test Valley Borough Council approved a £3.5 million investment into Vigo Park on Wednesday 3 December. Plans include a new water play attraction, a modern bowls clubhouse, refreshment kiosk and public toilets — a major boost for families and community use of the space.
The festive period also highlighted Andover’s generosity:
- £7,021 was raised for Countess of Brecknock Hospice through the hugely successful Andover Santa Cruises, organised by Andover Community Events.
- For the third year running, Monopoly Insurance delivered 100 food boxes to families in need, with the support of local businesses — ensuring help reached those who needed it most this Christmas.
