Andover Murder: more arrests made

Police investigating the murder of a man in Andover made three more arrests yesterday (Friday 13th April).

Two women, aged 32 and 47, and a 46-year-old man, all from Andover, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are in custody at this time.

A 37-year-old man, from Andover, arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this morning remains in custody.

Officers were called just before 1am on Friday, 13 April after a man had been found injured in an alleyway in Smannell Road.

The 28-year-old, from London, was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Chivers said: “Our investigations into the exact circumstances of what happened in the early hours of this morning are ongoing and residents in Andover will see a lot of police activity in the area today and throughout the weekend.

“We will be carrying out house to house enquiries, as well as undertaking an extensive search of the scene.

“At this stage, we believe there are still people who were in the area or saw what happened that we have yet to speak to, so if this is you, please get in touch.

Chief Inspector for Andover, Kory Thorne, added: “We understand that this will cause concern for residents but I would like to reassure the community that we will have an increased number of officers in the area as the investigation progresses.

“It is rare for an incident such as this to happen in our town and our neighbourhood officers are working extremely hard with detectives to ensure all lines of enquiry are thoroughly investigated.
