Andover’s Andrew Carnegie wins Brookhouse Cup for third time!

On Sunday 16 August, Andrew Carnegie of Andover Bowling Club competed in the final of the Brookhouse Cup, the annual trophy competition for champion bowlers between bowling clubs affiliated to the Whitchurch and District Bowling League.

The final took place at the neutral venue of Marnell Bowling Club, Popley, Basingstoke, where Andrew faced Andy Lowe, of Hook Bowling Club. Andrew got off to an absolute flyer and was 10-0 up after 5 ends, and, while Andy thereafter came back strongly, Andrew proved irresistible, eventually winning by a score of 21-10, in the process proving himself a true ‘champion of champions’!

Stepping off the green, Andrew said, ‘I’m absolutely delighted to have won again! It means a lot specifically as all the entrants are quality bowlers from around the area, so it provides a real test throughout the outdoors season. Andy Lowe also played a full part in what was a terrific final; and we are both grateful to the President and Committee of Marnell Bowling Club for providing a venue worthy of the occasion.’

This is the third time that Andrew has won the Brookhouse Cup, having won previously in 2022 and 2024. Chris Richardson, also then of Andover Bowling Club, was the runner up in 2023. This year, Andrew defeated five opponents on his way to the title, including our own Cindy McLaughlin, Andover Women’s Singles Champion in 2025, in the quarter final.
