Andover’s Stannah Team Kicks Off Nationwide Charity Cycle for Good Causes

Stannah lifts keep people and goods moving every day. Now they’re getting mobile themselves– supporting charities across the UK.

Stannah colleagues at Andover headquarters are the first to embark on the incredible 4,000-mile charity cycling challenge, raising £700 and counting for their chosen charity, Brecknock Hospice. With Stannah match funding, this brings the total to £1,400.

Together, over 700 colleagues across 11 service branches will collectively cycle one full lap of Britain by clocking up the miles on an indoor exercise bike that will travel between each location – 4,000 miles, the equivalent of 1.28 million lift journeys – keeping Britain moving in more ways than one!

Colleagues at Andover headquarters have cycled an impressive 600 miles, with just over 3,400 miles remaining to reach the final target.

Every mile cycled reflects a shared commitment to raising funds for the nominated life-changing charity, helping the hospice continue its essential palliative and end-of-life services.

The Countess of Brecknock Hospice in Andover was chosen by Stannah employees in recognition of the compassionate specialist care and support it provides to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Employing 229 Andover residents, 581 Andover and surrounding villages and 720 in total across Hampshire, this cause is incredibly close to participants’ hearts.

Emma Ternent, Contracts Administrator in the New Lifts Division at Stannah Lifts, said: “I nominated The Countess of Brecknock Hospice as the care and support they provided my father at the end stages of his life was second to none. They made a very scary and heartbreaking experience a lot gentler.”

Sasha Greely, Fundraising & Volunteer Co-ordinator at The Countess of Brecknock Hospice, shares: “I wish the Stannah team all the best in their ongoing cycle challenge as they work towards their 4K target. It’s truly inspiring to see their dedication and enthusiasm in raising funds for The Countess of Brecknock Hospice. Their community spirit really shines through and their willingness to take on such a challenge is highly commendable. Stannah is inspiring others to get involved and showing how businesses can be genuine forces for positive change in our community.”

Councillor John Cockaday, Councillor Mark Farren and Councillor Andrew Horsnell supported the Stannah team with a visit to the service branch on Watt Close.

Deputy Town Clerk, Micha West, says: “Andover Town Council wishes the Stannah team all the very best in their cycle challenge as they work towards their 4K target. It is truly inspiring to see such dedication and enthusiasm in raising funds for local charities. Their strong community spirit shines through and their willingness to take on this challenge is highly commendable. Stannah is not only making a meaningful difference but also inspiring others to get involved, demonstrating how businesses can be a genuine force for positive change in our community. By donating to the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, the Stannah team has chosen a charity very close to the hearts of many in Andover.”

Helen Stirrup of the Stannah family thanked councillors for taking the time to visit and expressed her appreciation to the hospice team for joining in and adding their own miles and for their ongoing commitment.

The exercise bike will now travel to the Ringwood branch, where they will have two weeks to complete their mileage target and raise funds for a local charity before moving on to the next location, mapping a virtual route around Great Britain.

Ultimately, this nationwide challenge is about far more than tallying up miles. It’s about unity, connection, wellbeing and giving back to communities across the country — all while celebrating the engineering and service teams who keep Britain moving every day.
