A local man is appealing for help after his three-month-old kitten suffered serious injuries following a fall from a flat window, leaving him facing thousands of pounds in veterinary bills.

Mark Dargan said his beloved kitten, Chippy, fell from his flat window on Tuesday night, resulting in severe damage to one of his legs. Following emergency examinations, vets informed Mark that the injury is so serious that Chippy’s leg will need to be amputated.
The unexpected accident has left Mark facing veterinary costs of more than £2,500 for the operation, on top of £1,034 he has already paid for emergency X-rays. To cover those initial costs, Mark said he was forced to take out a payday loan.
Mark explained that he had not been able to arrange pet insurance for Chippy, as money has been particularly tight in recent months. He has also been signed off work by his doctor and says he is currently struggling financially.
Despite the challenges, Mark is determined to do everything possible to save Chippy.
“This isn’t for me,” he said. “I wouldn’t ask if it was. It’s for a beautiful little kitten who I got to help me with my very bad mental health.”
Mark described Chippy as a much-loved companion who has brought comfort and support during a difficult period in his life. He said the thought of losing him is unbearable.
“I won’t have him put to sleep,” he said. “That would just kill me.”
As he continues to search for ways to fund the life-changing operation, Mark is asking members of the community to donate if they are able or simply share his appeal to help reach more people.
He added that he has supported many local causes and fundraising efforts over the years and is hoping that kindness will now be returned to help save Chippy.
Anyone wishing to support Mark’s fundraising efforts is encouraged to donate or share his appeal on social media.
