A trip to watch two of the top female football teams in Europe is inspiring players from Harrow Way’s girls’ football club.
The Champions League match between Chelsea Ladies and Bayern Munich showed the budding football stars how the best players in Europe get to the top of their game.
Organised by PE teacher Elaine Escritt who said “When it comes to watching ladies international football there probably isn’t a better team than Chelsea. The squad boast numerous players from the England team and our girls were thrilled and excited to be part of such an entertaining game.”
“Trips such as this are designed to inspire students so whether playing football for leisure or as a would-be professional we want to show what the very best can do – we like to set their ambitions high!”
Prior to kick-off, the girls watched both teams warm up giving them an understanding as to the level of fitness and skill of the professional players. Wholeheartedly joining in with all manner of footballing traditions they enjoyed the pre-match burger and gave the chanting their all as they waved their flags, singing Chelsea Ladies to a 1-0 victory.
The Chelsea Ladies line up included England international Drew Spence who scored the winning goal, the infamous Katie Chapman, Karen Carney and Eni Aluko who have all been the backbone of the England squad for many years. The young and upcoming England players also feature in the Chelsea squad including Fran Kirby and Millie Bright.
Elaine Escritt concludes “I always say that the benchmark for a successful school trip is when students are happy to go again. I’m pleased to say the girls are very keen!”
