First Santa bowl gives ‘I Can’ success

Around 50 Santas posed a striking picture as they entered the first Santa Bowl today (Sunday 9th December).

The first of these awareness and fundraising events is being held at Riverside Bowl on Bridge Street.

The event has people of all ages dressed as Santa Claus and is raising money for the I Can Therapy Centre.

To a background of Christmas music and the sound of pins being bowled over for a good cause, the event is a replacement for the town’s Santa Fun Run which has been running for almost 9 years by Riverside Bowl operator, local charity Valley Leisure.

The centre helps people with a range of abilities to exercise and get mobile.  The innovative exercise experience offered by I Can Therapy Centre at The Salto Centre off Charlton Road combines clinical knowledge and expertise of a therapy-led service along with a rehabilitation facility to benefit those with health conditions and those who are looking to mobilise and feel better.

The Centre started in Andover last year and is already planning to open a second in Sheffield early next year.

The annual Santa Fun Run organised by local charity Valley Leisure was brought inside this year, after concerns about the weather. Last year’s outdoor event was seen as a success, even by almost hundred soggy Santas who took part.
