Andover New Street Ladies returned from a long trip to Guernsey with a hard-fought point after a dramatic 4–4 draw on Sunday afternoon.
The side, who endured a disrupted journey home following a cancelled flight, showed resilience and determination in what Head Coach Ryan described as “a strong response” after a difficult run of results.
Street made the perfect start when Freya opened the scoring early, settling any nerves and giving the visitors confidence. They doubled their lead soon after, controlling the tempo of the game with sharp movement and tidy passing.
Guernsey responded to pull one back, but Street continued to push forward and restored their two-goal advantage before the break, heading in 3–1 up at half-time.
The second half, however, brought a change in momentum. Guernsey emerged with renewed intent and levelled the match at 3–3, setting up a tense and physical battle.
In stoppage time, Street thought they had secured victory when they struck to go 4–3 ahead in the 95th minute. But with virtually the last kick of the game, Guernsey produced a stunning equaliser to snatch a point and deny the visitors all three.
Reflecting on the performance, Head Coach Ryan praised his side’s response:
“It’s a tough one to take as we felt we’d done enough to win, but there are plenty of positives. After two defeats on the bounce and a tough spell, the girls showed real character to bounce back. We created a lot of chances and hit the woodwork four times. On another day, we’d have taken more of those opportunities, but overall this was a much better performance all round.”
Midfielder Immy was named Player of the Match after a tireless display in the middle of the park, with Ryan highlighting her relentless work-rate and determination.
Street Ladies now look ahead to their next fixture at home against Bemerton Heath Harlequins this Sunday (5th October), with kick-off at 2pm at Foxcotte Park. Entry is £3 for adults and free for under-16s.
