The return of Armed Forces Day to Andover is set to be a showstopper as an Apache Helicopter is planned to be the highlight of the event.
The military chopper made popular by the television show Airwolf will be provided by the Army Air Corps based at Middle Wallop. A Gazelle helicopter and other military vehicles – modern and historical – will also be on show at the event.
Andover Armed Forces Day is Sunday 25th June at Vigo Park and is organised and hosted by new local radio station Andover Radio.
Committee chairman Richard Rowles says, “I am sure people will agree that we are privileged to have one of the world’s most advanced pieces of military technology come to our event.
“The presence of a multi-million pound flying gunship needs a lot of planning and we are already working with the army, police and local councils to ensure its safe and visually impressive arrival”.
The event which celebrates the work of our Armed Forces past, present and future will also have exhibitions, displays and activities for the whole family including bridge building by the Royal Engineers, bushcraft activities from Veterans in Action and medal presentations for former forces personnel by the Mayor and deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire.
Refreshments, fairground rides and a bar will all be on site, as well as side-stalls of activities for younger visitors.
A small number of pitches remain for businesses who want to exhibit at the event. Details can be found at andoverarmedforcesday.com
