An Extraordinary General Meeting of Andover’s town council will be held tonight (27th November 2020).
With just one item on the agenda, the meeting will be publicly available on video platform Zoom. The motion, “The Andover Town Council has No Confidence in Councillor Rowles as Chair of Council/Town Mayor” will be heard tonight at 6:00pm.
The motion was proposed by Cllr Rebecca Meyer (Winton Ward) and seconded by Cllr Christopher Ecclestone (Millway Ward).
The much lambasted town council has come under plenty of fire in the past 18 months, including the news that all five members of staff were being placed on leave after ‘complaints’ and the subsequent legal costs incurred.
Cllr David Treadwell (Romans Ward) had previously asked Cllr Rowles to stand down as Chair, ahead of a probable vote of no confidence.
Regarding the quickly called Extraordinary General Meeting, on a politics Facebook group, borough councillor Nick Matthews commented, “I am sure this comment be deleted, or you may tell me off!! 😂😂. But I thought all their meetings extraordinary!”
Cllr Rowles won an incredible landslide victory at the local elections in May last year. His newly formed Andover Alliance Party won 15 of the 16 available seats on Andover town council. The party was de-registered with the Electoral Commission earlier this month.
