Ahead of the launch, the brewery hosted a special preview evening on Wednesday, 17th September, welcoming invited guests including councillors, members of the press, and community representatives. Attendees were given the first look – and taste – of what the Gosport-based brewery will soon bring to the town.

Since the soft launch event, the bar has been loosely open to the public, giving locals an early opportunity to sample its drinks and atmosphere. On Thursday, 18th September, it served drinks until 9pm, while from Friday, 19th September through the weekend, it offered a smaller food selection alongside its beers.

Powder Monkey, founded in 2021, has rapidly built a reputation in the craft beer world. Chief Executive and founder Andy Burdon said:
“We’re thrilled to have finished work on the lower Guildhall and to give our guests a preview of what’s to come. The turnout for the pre-launch was fantastic, and we can’t wait to officially welcome the public and work closely with the Andover community.”

The evening was well-received by local leaders. Councillor Phil North, Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, praised the development after sampling a pint of Monkey’s Charge:
“This is such a positive step for Andover. It’s a fantastic facility in the heart of the town that will draw more people into the centre. Once the theatre reopens nearby, this area will really become a hub of activity.”

Councillor Jan Budzynski also celebrated the addition:
“When we first announced it, I said I’d be here for a pint – and I stand by that. It’s a brilliant addition for the 18–35, maybe even 40, age group, and a welcome boost for Andover’s evening scene.”

While TVBC Chief Executive Andy Ferrier called it “a sign of how exciting Andover’s future is”, noting he particularly enjoyed the brewery’s take on an American Pale Ale.

Councillor Iris Andersen added her support, saying:
“It’s absolutely great to see something new like this in Andover. It gives people another reason to come into the town centre.” She confirmed she would be back, this time for a glass of rosé.

With the official opening now confirmed for Tuesday, 23rd September, anticipation is high that Powder Monkey’s arrival will inject new energy into Andover’s town centre.
