Powercut strikes Sheep Fair area of Andover

Powercut Andover November 2020

An electricity powercut affected hundreds of properties in some SP10 2 areas tonight (Sunday 15th November).

Scottish and Southern Energy Networks told us that the power outage started around 5.15pm and may take until 9.00pm before all properties have their supply returned.

Properties on the Sheep Fair estate including Highlands Road, Bell Road and London Road were affected. The Best Western Andover Hotel on Micheldever Road was also in darkness.

It’s thought that many sectors across Hampshire and Wiltshire were affected by the loss of supply. 41 areas were affected as of 18:41 according to the electricty supplier SSE, these included:

SSEN said, “We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed. Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can.”

Some streets saw power returned around 6.50pm, after an hour and a half without electricity. A quarter of streets remained affected for longer.

As batteries survived on mobile phones, listeners to local radio station Andover Radio got in contact through social media to suggest that the station plays songs like Snap’s ‘I’ve Got The Power’, Elton John’s ‘Candle in the Wind’ or Giorgio Moroder’s ‘Together in Electric Dreams’.

Facebook user Corrina Holdway said Wool Grove was without power and Christian Duffield told Love Andover, “Wolversdene Road is off and the kids are loving it”.
