The residents of Thruxton once again displayed their caring and inclusive nature by hosting a quiz to raise funds for local teenager Maisey Rowles planned expedition to Borneo next July.
15 year old Maisey attends John Hanson Community School and has the opportunity to go on a trip of a lifetime to the incredible island of Borneo.
Maisey says, “This trip offers me the unique chance to live and work as part of the community, helping local people improve their living standards in a sustainable way and supporting various conservation efforts to safeguard the future of some of the world’s rarest and most impressive wildlife”.
Maisey has to raise £4,300 to go on the trip and started her fundraising last year by bravely shaving her hair off. COVID-19 has slightly hampered her fundraising activities since so we thought we would host a quiz to show our support.
Quiz organiser Richard Smart said, “Anyone who is prepared to shave their hair off, especially a teenage girl, deserves our full support. Maisey is a wonderful girl and she was an amazing presenter as she broadcast the quiz live to the Village”.
The quiz winners were Peter and Kate Christie aka ‘Team Christie and Crusty’ and their prize was a £25 Amazon voucher which they promptly donated to Maisey, which was a wonderful gesture.
Other teams did not fair quite so well with Maisey’s parents Lisa and Andy Rowles aka “The Profita Rowles” scooping the coveted wooden spoon!
The quiz raised an amazing £220 for Maisey’s fund which shows the love and support that the villagers have for her – well done Maisey and well done Thruxton.
