Train delays due to track circuit failures

South Western Railways have advised train travellers to expect delays after track circuit failures between Andover and Basingstoke. 

These are causing delays of up to 20 minutes to train services passing through these stations in both directions.

South Western Railways Statement

Due to a track circuit failure between Honiton and Crewkerne trains have to run at reduced speed on the line.

There have also been three other, independent track circuit failures between Andover and Basingstoke These are causing further delays of up to 20 minutes to train services passing through these stations in both directions.

Network Rail own the railway infrastructure and have their engineering staff have been advised of this issue and are on site to rectify the problem with the track circuits.

How does this affect my journey? 

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 16:00 22/11.

What’s my alternative to get to my destination? 

You may use your ticket on:

  • GWR services between Exeter St. David’s and London Paddington in both directions.
  • GWR services between Basingstoke and Reading in both directions.
  • London Underground services from London Paddington.

Owing to the multiple incidents on this route at different locations, which has resulted in us having to run a reduced train service, we will supplement the reduced train service with road transport in key locations between Exeter St Davids and Basingstoke when there is sufficient demand.
