Valley Leisure Ltd is calling for volunteers to support its much-loved I Can Community Clubs, which help older adults stay active, keep connected and live well for as long as possible. The clubs currently run in Andover, with a new club launching in Abbotts Ann in September 2026.

Rooted in the belief that movement, mobility and meaningful social connection are essential to ageing well, the I Can Community Clubs offer older adults a welcoming space to enjoy active activity, companionship and confidence-building support. The sessions are designed to help people maintain the everyday mobility they need to continue doing the things they want, need and enjoy – from getting out and about to staying steady on their feet.
With social isolation and loneliness affecting many older people locally, volunteers play a vital role in creating warm, friendly environments where everyone feels valued and supported. Valley Leisure is seeking individuals who understand the importance of staying mobile, the benefits of functional fitness and the power of being active together to reduce frailty and prevent falls.
A typical club session blends movement with launching and connection. Attendees might take part in active games, like indoor kurling, enjoying simple activities that support balance and strength, or a chat over a cup of tea. The focus is always on helping people move more and feel better in a relaxed, social able setting.
Volunteers support these sessions by chatting with attendees, offering encouragement during activities and helping to create a warm, inclusive atmosphere. No previous experience is required – just kindness, patience and a willingness to make a positive difference. The role is flexible, with opportunities to give between 2.5 and 7 hours per week.
Hannah May, Community Coordinator for Valley Leisure, said:
“Our I Can Community Clubs are all about helping people stay active and connected in a way that feels enjoyable and achievable. Volunteers are at the heart of that. Even a small amount of time can brighten someone’s day, boost their confidence and help them keep moving well for longer.”
Volunteering with I Can Community Clubs is not only beneficial for participants; it is also deeply rewarding for volunteers, offering the chance to meet new people, build confidence and contribute to the wellbeing of the local community.
