Andover business supporting the fight against COVID-19

Dawes Highway Safety LTD, a local Andover business, is helping support the UK’s fight against Coronavirus by using its manufacturing facility to recreate the government’s message to ‘stay home, protect the NHS and save lives’.

The innovative safety product called PeoplePanel® is an impact tested flat panel safety system that’s widely used in the UK to warn cyclists and pedestrians to take extra care near large vehicles.

The market-leading product is supplied directly to transport companies and manufacturers building new lorries to help warn cyclists and pedestrians about the dangers of getting too close to a large vehicle in urban areas. The panels also help stop people being dragged beneath a lorry during a collision where they could suffer unnecessary injury or even death.

Managing director James Dawes said “Our industry, like others, is facing unprecedented times and it’s crucial that we all follow the message to stay at home to prevent the spread of COVID19.

Our cycle and pedestrian safety panels are already industry-leading and we have the unique ability to use our existing contacts to put the government’s warning message on the road up and down the country in a very short space of time.

This will help deter people making unnecessary journeys on the road transport network which spreads Coronavirus. We are hugely grateful to our key workers who are keeping our country moving, which is why we are donating 100% of our profits to the NHS for their fight against the pandemic and to help keep our loved ones safe”.

Member of Parliment for North West Hampshire Kit Malthouse said: “I’m delighted that yet another Andover based company is using innovative technology and ideas to help combat Coronavirus.  Stay Home. Protect the NHS. Save lives”

Dawes Highway Safety based in Andover has grown significantly since it was founded in 2015 by James Dawes who is a former Metropolitan Police Sergeant from London’s Road Policing Unit. The company’s customers range from small fleets right up to national contracts with well-known names like Tarmac, Network Rail, Aggregate Industries and Balfour Beatty.

Their innovative products are formerly recognised by leading commercial insurance companies as well as safety schemes such as ‘The London Direct Vision Standard (DVS)’ and the ‘Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme (FORS)’. Their wide acceptance by fleet operators in the road industry has meant they are even resold by manufacturers such as Volvo and Scania and industry leading organisations such as the Freight Transport Association.
