Andover Triathlon: Fast and testing but ‘open to all’

Andover Triathlon

Triathlon is currently one of the biggest growth sports in the UK.

Andover’s triathlon will be taking place on Sunday 21st July. Races are at Farleigh School in Red Rice.

By popular demand, this year organisers have a relay option for the Adult Sprint race.

They will also be hosting a series of children’s races in the afternoon. Organisers have confirmed that this year, the children’s race will not be part of the South Central Race Series.

Triathlon is seen by many as a sport full of ‘elite’ athletes who are super fit and devote their life to training and racing but the team behind the annual event say, “This is far from the case. At ‘Andover Tri’ we cater for all abilities. We have a real mix, from members training for their first triathlon, to seasoned athletes who have already completed ‘Ironman”’events and everything in between.

“We also have members who enjoy differing variations such as mountain biking or simply one discipline from the three.”

If it’s your first Triathlon event, you are encouraged to read their Tips for Your First Triathlon guide here.

The swim will take place in the school’s 22m indoor pool. The adult race is a 440m swim (20 lengths).

Competitors will be allocated waves appropriate to their declared anticipated swim times. There will be four lanes in operation, each with four swimmers.

Andover Triathlon add, “We are an active organisation, well respected within the local community, currently providing a range of training opportunities each week. We have a team of experienced BTF qualified coaches who run a variety of the sessions.

We race as individuals and together as a club in local and national events in addition to also organising our own very popular junior and adult triathlon each year.”
