GPs offer extended hours at Andover War Memorial Hospital

Kit Malthouse, MP for North West Hampshire, officially opened the new service being offered from Andover War Memorial Hospital

People in Andover and the surrounding villages are now able to see a GP, practice nurse or healthcare assistant in the evenings and at weekends using a new service being run from Andover War Memorial Hospital.

The service is available from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on weekdays and from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, offering appointments for people registered at surgeries in Andover, Whitchurch and Stockbridge.

Patients can book a routine appointment by ringing their own GP surgery. Urgent appointments will be booked by the out of hours GP service via NHS 111 when GP surgeries are closed.

All clinicians will have full access to the patient’s electronic primary care records as long as the patient has given their consent when they book their appointment.

The service is funded by NHS West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, run by Mid Hampshire Healthcare, the local GP federation, with Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust hosting the service at Andover hospital.

Alex Whitfield, chief executive of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital, in Winchester, said: “We are delighted to be able to host this extended hours service at Andover War Memorial Hospital, giving more people the chance to see a GP.

We have a long history of working with our GP partners and are always looking for new ways of collaborating to provide the best possible service for the people of Hampshire.

Professor Clare Wedderburn, clinical director for primary and community care at West Hampshire CCG, said: “We are very pleased that this new service is up and running. People are now able to make an appointment to see a GP in the evenings or at weekends.

Dr Ben Inglis, clinical director at Mid Hampshire Healthcare, added: “We are all really looking forward to providing this excellent new service for local people.
