Success for Rookwood Pupil in the Hammer Throw

Rookwood School student Ellie aged 14, has once again excelled in her Hammer throw exploits. Ellie finished top of the National rankings for Under 15 Girls Hammer throw last year and has continued her success into this athletic season. Representing Andover District at the Hampshire Athletic Championships on the 12th June, Ellie won the Hammer throw with an outstanding personal best of 48.42m. This extended her lead at the top of the National rankings, throwing nearly 4m further than her nearest National competitor. Ellie also competed in the Shot Put and achieved another personal best and finished 3rd in the County.  

In winning the County Championship, Ellie has set her sights on winning the Hammer throw at the English Schools’ Athletics Championships and the National Athletics Championships this summer.  

Head of Physical Education at Rookwood, Mr Leigh Mills said “This is another incredible achievement by Ellie as she continues to excel at what she does. With her dedication and positive mind-set, it seems that anything is possible for this aspiring young athlete. The entire Rookwood Family are all so proud of Ellie’s achievements and look forward to her competing at the English Schools’ Athletics Championships soon”.
