Super Thruxton’s Super Saturday

Thruxton Bake

By Thruxton Reporter-in-Chief, Richard Smart

Residents of Thruxton soaked up the sun at the weekend whilst they enjoyed “Super Saturday”.

The day started with a Bake Sale and Bric-a-Brac Stall organised by 12-year old Eleanor Vessey and 10-year old Sophie Thomas. The girls spent hours baking cakes and making banners and the event was a huge success.

They raised £250 for a Support Fund for a local couple who sadly suffered a house fire a few weeks ago.

Resident Rick Smart said, “Thruxton is so proud of Eleanor and Sophie. For girls so young to have the awareness and willingness to help others is amazing. They worked so hard and the cakes were yummy”

The Bake Sale was followed by a socially distanced ‘Pimms on the Green’ event organised by Village Association Chairwoman Cat Boslem.

The event was sponsored by the great team at Londis in Weyhill and forty residents enjoyed drinks, music and great company in the Sun.

Two teenagers Finn and Ciara Horner gave up their time and worked tirelessly waiting on tables and clearing up. During the event a raffle was held and in combination with donations for Pimms a staggering £850 was raised for the village association.

A massive thank you to all those who donated prizes particularly Andy Lavery at Dawnbreakers and Tidworth Garrison Golf Club who donated amazing first and second prizes.

Cat Boslem said, “Once again Thruxton has shown what an amazing, inclusive community we live win with ages 2 to 85 enjoying the day. To see young residents organising a Bake Sale and volunteering to waitress at the Pimms event fills my heart with Pride.

“We have chosen to match the Bake Sale money and donate £250 from the raffle to the Bridge Cottage Fire Fund. The remaining money will be used to finance future community events and provide financial support to village clubs and organisations. A huge thank you to all involved”

Thruxton never rests for long and next weekend former Reverend of the Church Ann McKenzie is holding a garage sale with all proceeds being donated to Thruxton Church – amazing!
