The Red Box project in Andover is part of a nationwide project who aim to have a Red Box ,full of local community donated sanitary protection, in every school.
At the moment they have boxes in Winton School, John Hanson, Harrow Way and Andover college.
The aim is to provide a free, fully stocked box for young women to access if they haven’t got access at home, for whatever reason. When the box runs low, the team refill it. In a recent survey by Plan UK, 1 in 10 girls said they had been unable to afford sanitary protection. 1 in 7 said they had struggled to afford protection. 49% had missed at least a day of school because of this.Whether it’s period poverty, not being able to ask at home, or just being caught short, they want to have their backs and let them keep their dignity.
So far the teams donations have just come from their friends , family and netball tea mates, they would love more people to get involved in the project. Can you help set up a donation point ?, would you like to help as part of the red project Andover team?, then please do get in touch with them via email, theredboxprojectandover@gmail.com or their facebook page here
The Red Box Project quietly ensures that no young woman misses school because she has her period.
