Andover Link Main: Southern Water Confirms Public Drop-ins For 22.5 km Pipeline

Southern Water will hold three public drop-in sessions in October to share plans for the Andover Link Main – a 22.5 km pipeline connecting Winchester and Andover to boost resilience and cut abstraction from the River Anton and, downstream, the River Test.

This follows our earlier coverage on Wednesday 3 September 2025, when we reported the £70m scheme to transfer up to 15 million litres of drinking water a day.

Event details:

  • Picket Piece Village Hall – Tuesday 7 October 2025, 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm
  • Sparsholt Cricket Club – Thursday 9 October 2025, 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm
  • Victoria Hall, Sutton Scotney – Friday 17 October 2025, 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm

Southern Water says Hampshire needs to find an extra 200 million litres per day during a drought to keep taps flowing. The Andover Link Main is part of the Water for Life – Hampshire programme alongside Havant Thicket Reservoir and the Hampshire Water Transfer and Water Recycling Project.

Ben Ring, Major Projects Director at Southern Water, said:

“It’s great to be taking the next step for our essential Andover Link Main. This pipeline will reduce pressure on Hampshire’s iconic chalk streams – helping keep them and our customers’ taps flowing, especially during a drought.

“We’ve worked with local stakeholders and planning authorities to develop a route that will minimise disruption for local residents. We are now asking customers for their views on the proposals before we submit our planning applications later this year.”
