Slam dunk for Harrow Way school after funding boost from Jamie G Sporting Trust

Harrow Way School were delighted to net £11,922.81 of funding from the Jamie G Sporting Trust to for new basketball and Gymnastic equipment.

The money has been put towards new electronic basketball hoops and 4 large gymnastic mats that will cover the entire floor of the the schools gym. The new equipment will enable the students to utilise the entire basketball court , they have also started a basketball club at school with over 60 students coming and it is now available for full court hire after school and at the weekends. 

The gymnastic mats will be utilised in next year’s curriculum when they reinstate gymnastics into their curriculum, they hope to start a gymnastics club (something the students are desperate for!) and they will also be available for hire outside of school hours.

Callum Briggs who is the new head of Physical Education said “We are delighted to work with the Jamie G Sporting Trust.  They have allowed us to further enrich the lives of our students by being able to offer a wider range of activities within the curriculum and after school.  We are all very pleased with the new equipment and the donation is hugely appreciated.”  

The Jamie G Sporting trust have been raising funds for sports clubs in the SP10 postcode area for 12 years. They have raised over £100,000 and look to support increased physical activity in under 18’s across the area.

Chairman of the trust Tommy Gentleman told us “As Chairman of the Trust, it gives me great pleasure to support this latest community project. Our aim is to increase the participation in sport amongst the youth of Andover and supporting villages and this equipment will be used by hundreds of young people in the community every week. Speaking as Jamie G’s big brother, it’s very special to see his legacy going stronger than ever 13 years after he passed away”.
