In June 2021, Hampshire and Isle of Wight launched a clothing collection to raise much needed funds to keep the air ambulance, in the air, saving lives. The HIOWAA joined forces with Recycling Solutions to offer a contactless collection of your previously loved items, across Hampshire and Test Valley.

It is estimated that every year 350,000 tonnes of clothing is put into landfill in the UK alone. This is a staggering £140 million pounds’ worth, which experts estimate taking on average 200 years to biodegrade.

Director of Fundraising, Rachel Leaman, said, “Wardrobe clear-outs throughout the lockdowns have provided us with a golden opportunity to get real value from people’s previously-loved clothing.

“Each item of clothing will go towards helping us be there for the most critically ill and injured people in our region”

The unwanted clothing collection for Andover and Romsey is 21st September, you can arrange the collection by clicking HERE

For every tonne of clothing that is collected, the HIWAA receive £210.

The Items they are currently accepting are:

-Clothes

-Shoes

-Bags, belts, hats

-Sheets, towels, pillow cases, duvet cases

Every donation ensures that the Air Ambulance service can continue to be there for the most critically ill and seriously injured patients.

On average, UK air ambulances will attend over 80 lifesaving missions every day. That’s over 30,000 a year.
