A Pig-tastic fundraiser in Thruxton

Last week the White Horse Inn Thruxton hosted a fundraising evening for a local family whose teenage daughter Rae has sadly contracted Sarcoma Cancer.

The compere for the evening was Dave Cosgrove who was ably assisted by his wonderful daughters Vikki and Leanne and friends Jo and Imogen. The highlight of the evening was the Pink Fluffy Pig racing which involved battery operated pigs trying to get over the finish line first on a course built by Dave.

There were also other fun games and numerous friends, family and local residents enjoyed a fabulous evening. The residents of Thruxton also hosted a meat raffle during the week with the help pf the fabulous Owtons Butchers at Rosebourne and raised £260 for Rae. On the night Vikki ran another raffle with prizes generously donated by Tidworth Garrison Golf Club, Rosebourne, the White Horse and family and friends Elsa O’Sullivan, Sammie Robbins, Daryl Hudgell, Michelle Cano Moore, Amy Dunn, Aimee Cook, Paul Cook.

In addition the wonderful Team at Londis in Weyhill also made a very significant cash donation to Rae which she was totally overwhelmed with. Operations Manager Suki Yogananthan of JP & S Services who manage the garage said “As a business we have family at the core of our values and given the circumstances we would very much like to make a donation to the family of Rae to hopefully make things a little more comfortable for them in these difficult times”

Overall an incredible sum of £2000 was raised to help the family as Rae starts to undergo a gruelling series of Chemotherapy sessions at Portsmouth Hospital. Rae’s stepmother Cassey Fenton said “We are totally overwhelmed by the generosity shown tonight. THANK YOU doesn’t sound enough, but it’s truly the biggest, heartfelt thank you I’ve ever given. The incredible Ham-shire Pigs, my beautiful girls who organized it, every single person who donated an amazing prize, and everyone who bought tickets/placed bets – thank you so so much. If you were there tonight you saw how much it meant to Rae, and the rest of us! So proud”
