A six-month scheme to maintain three bridges that carry the A303 over local roads near Andover has started.
The scheme, which will help to improve journeys on this stretch, will involve replacing key components of the bridges to provide drivers with safer and more reliable journeys for years to come.
The work will include 24/7 narrow lanes with overnight lane closures and some occasional weekend carriageway closures later in programme. The work is due to be completed, weather dependent, in January 2018.
Highways England Project Sponsor Gemma Luckhurst said “Maintaining these three bridges will prolong the life of the structures and provide the 60,000 drivers that use this section of the A303 each day with safer and more reliable journeys for years to come.”
“We are carrying out the work on the three bridges at the same time to minimise the overall disruption.”
Some weekend closures will be used to replace the waterproofing material and bridge joints, which span both carriageways. It is expected these will take place over weekends between September and December.
Diversions
A303 Diversion Routes: Thruxton Hill and Kimpton Quarley
The A303 will be closed between the A338 Parkhouse Cross and the A343 Hundred Acre/Monxton junctions, with the following diversions in place:
Eastbound closure: traffic will be diverted from the Parkhouse Cross junction north on the A338 to Tidworth, east along the A3026 to Ludgershall, south along the A342 Andover Road towards Andover, re-joining the A303 at the Hundred Acre junction
Westbound closure: traffic will be diverted from the Hundred Acre junction north on the A342 Andover Road towards Ludgershall, west along the A3026 to Tidworth, then south on the A338 re-joining the A303 at the Parkhouse Cross junction
A303 Diversion Routes: Picket Twenty
The A303 will be closed between the A3093 Picket Twenty and A343 Hundred Acre/Monxton junctions, with the following diversions in place:
Eastbound closure: traffic will be diverted from the Hundred Acre junction around Andover via the A343, A3057 and A3093, re-joining the A303 at the Picket Twenty junction.
Westbound closure: traffic will be diverted from the Picket Twenty junction, around Andover via the A3093, A3057 and A343, re-joining the A303 at the Hundred Acre junction.
