Clatford school girl Effy Burton-Hutchence, 7, is planning on climbing the highest mountain in Wales to raise money for 2 charities that mean a lot to her and her family.
Mount Snowden awaits eager happy go lucky Effy on 28th May this year as she aims to raise money for Hope Rescue and the Lacey Pearl Trust Fund.
Hope Rescue’s mission is to; reduce the number of dogs destroyed in the U.K. every year by providing a foster home, kennel space or rescue placement for dogs in crisis situations and; reduce the number of dogs, entering the animal welfare system through campaigning for change; education and the promotion of responsible ownership; and the provision of support to owners to help them keep their pets and; promote the therapeutic benefits of pet ownership and interaction with dogs.
Hope Rescue is particularly close to the family as 3 years ago they adopted Rodney, Effy’s pup, from Hope Rescue. They had struggled to find a charity that would consider them, as Effy was 3 years old at the time. Effy’s mum Loren said “Hope Rescue were so thorough during the application and vetting process and when they decided we were the right home for Rodney, Effy was over the moon”.
Effy has also decided she would love to try and raise some money for The Lacey Pearl Trust Fund. The charity provides support and equipment to help make home life as comfortable as possible, for children living in the UK with Mitochondrial Disease.
Lacey is the sister of one of Effy‘s best friends, Faith Leggett, and Effy wants to help Lacey, Faith and the Leggett family to continue the fight against mitochondrial disease.
Leffy came into the Andover Radio studios and spoke with us and said “I’m really looking forward to climbing the mountain, to raise money for charities. One is Hope Rescue and that is where I got my dog Rodney from. He is a black dog and very cuddly and when you lie in bed he curls up with you. He is a big part of the family”
“I’m climbing the biggest mountain in Wales, Mount Snowden. I’ve also climbed Pen Y Fan Mountain, I’ve ran up Beacon Hill. It was very tiring. I’m doing lots of training with Mum and Dad going up little mountains”
Loren told us “Effy has done really well and we are so proud of her”.
