Service users at Andover and District Mencap (ADM) have been enjoying a series of Christmas parties. with help from a local ASDA fund.
Since last Saturday (December 9th 2017), service users and staff have been treated to a wide variety of entertainment and activities, including magic shows from Silly Scott and interactive adult storytelling from Mike Rodgers, culminating today in a disco for 3-19 year olds from Andover Radio’s DJ Will Haven.
The activities at the charity’s Wellington Centre on Winchester Road and the Royal British Legion were funded with £999.99 from the ASDA Community Fund. Funds were agreed with ADM Ambassador Iris Andersen and the Andover superstore’s community champion Yvonne Nicholson.
The charity, which will get a new name next year, gave young and adult service users with Learning Disabilities enjoyed a host of entertainment sessions with food, including performer Nick Magic.
A recent survey showed that 30% of people with Learning Disabilities did not want to socialise because of a ‘lack of understanding of their needs’.
This week, local singer Maddison Douche and the Brilliant Drama Group helped raise over £200 for the charity by performing in the entrance lobby of ASDA.
Young people were today also treated to a live phone call with Santa.
