Andover RCS helping to feed local families

With another lockdown, the RCS, based at the The Longmeadow Centre on Crickerters way, Andover, would like to extend support to those vulnerable and in need within our community.

They have made available emergency hampers which includes a range of fresh, frozen and larder stock.

An emergency box for 1 adult and 2 children

The RCS is given food for the pantry from FareShare, FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 17 independent organisations. Together, they take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups.

Lindsay Boswell CEO of FareShare comments “We welcome the government’s announcement of more support through the continuing Covid-19 pandemic for vulnerable children and families in the UK. Making sure children don’t go hungry during the holidays or when schools are closed, is something FareShare and our Ambassador Marcus Rashford have been campaigning on for some time. So the extra funding for local authorities is welcome news. But the reality is that many families and individuals inevitably fall through cracks in the system. And FareShare’s work to provide over two million meals for vulnerable people each week will go on.”

This extra help from the RCS has been made possible by the Hampshire County Councils Connect4Communities Fund, which is for community and charity organisations that support families and individuals facing hardship because of coronavirus, it is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions.

The purpose of this programme is to support vulnerable families during the winter as the Covid-19 pandemic continues, to help ensure children and young people do not go hungry or without essential items.
