Andover Schools taking action

Andover 2021 School Closures

THIS ARTICLE IS NOW OUT OF DATE AS THE COUNTRY IS IN FULL NATIONAL LOCKDOWN

Which schools in Andover will close and which will remain open?

This is an ever changing situation with many primary schools making tough decisions at to whether to open, continue to open albeit partially or close entirely. We sympathise with parents and teachers as this evolving situation affects many peoples’ lives. See a list of schools’ current statuses below.

We currently understand that PILGRIM’S CROSS PRIMARY SCHOOL is planning to close for two weeks.

Earlier today staff at ROMAN WAY PRIMARY SCHOOL confirmed that Reception and Years 1, 2 and 3 will be taught remotely.

Headteacher Ms Jones added that Years 4, 5 and 6 should attend as normal. The school point out that no fines will be issued this week, but parents are asked to “notify the school if they [parents] intend to keep children at home. Ms Jones apologised for the inconvenience and says their decision will be reviewed on Friday.

VIGO PRIMARY SCHOOL say that certain classes are affected: WHALE, ICELAND, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, NEPAL and GEORGIA are temporarily not open to pupils.

Both RIDERS INFANT and RIDERS JUNIOR SCHOOL in Kingsclere will be closed to children, except for those who are vulnerable, have an EHCP, or are children of key workers. This will take affect from Tuesday 5th January.

Andover College students are currently expected to return to campus on Monday 18th January 2021.

Although the government is under increasing pressure to close schools, the Prime Minster today said, “The risk to teachers, and of course we will do everything we can to protect teachers… is no greater than it is to anyone else.”

Despite this, Mr Johnson is currently considering a potential further full national lockdown. He said at a press conference this afternoon, “Closing primary schools is a last resort.

“I would stress schools are safe and the risk to kids is very, very small.”

The Prime Minister will be addressing the nation at 8:00pm tonight. Information is updated hourly on 95.9FM Andover Radio.

We encourage schools to contact us with their plans, as they are agreed here: hello@loveandover.com
