A charity fundraiser for MacMillan is tomorrow (Saturday 24th August) at the Station Inn.
Huge support for the event which starts at midday has been shown as over twenty companies and individuals have donated prizes for a raffle, including Derby County Football Club.
The Championship side have donated two home game tickets and a signed shirt.
As the event raises money, organisers will have 43-year old Derby fan Kevin Heaton in mind as he finishes his fourth cycle of treatment for cancer of the esophagus at Southampton General Hospital.
Event co-organiser, Kevin’s brother Justin says, “This is in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and there’s a massive raffle of prizes including vouchers from Chillies curry house, Beaulieu Motor Museum, Essebourne Manor, Finkley Down Farm and many more.
“The signed Derby County shirt already has an opening bid of £100 and I am sure that will get higher. There will be a tombola, bric-a-brac and cakes so, if you can make it, The Station on Bridge Street in Andover is the place to be.“
‘The Rams’ have also just donated a pair of tickets to a home league fixture for this season. The event starts at midday and will be opened by Andover Radio gran with the disco plan, DJ Iris Andersen.
Justin adds, “The reason for this is my brother is going through cancer treatment right now.
“He has cancer of the esophagus, part of a trial worldwide, this is is his last week of treatment, but the next step is really quite big. The next step is to have his esophagus removed and they’ve got to remove part of his stomach to have it replaced.
“So he’s got to learn to eat, swallow and drink all over again.”
Justin says that through the raffle and donations from Derby County, he and his sister Donna have already raised over £400: “So, if we can get any where near £1,000 it would be amazing. We hope to see you at The Station.”
