Today, local man, Chay Boare, 36 – is going for gold at the A/BPU British Championships in Manchester at the Pendulum hotel. If he finishes in the top 3 he will be looking to represent the Great Britain Lifting Squad in the World Championships, later this year in September.
Chay qualified for todays event after lifting an incredible 647.5kg at the South West Qualifier last April (2022).
Chay has 3 attempts in 3 categories: – Rear Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift.

If Chay manages to get into the top 3 today – then he will be invited to lift in the World Championships!
Those who know Chay, who works at local firm, Simplyhealth, is a fantastic, lovable, ball of energy, who will do anything for anyone.
I train daily, I’ve been making steady progress over the last few years, I finished #1 in my category in the qualifier and even surprised myself as I managed to get 3 x PBs – which was amazing. I finished with the highest total weight, in my weight category in the whole of my federation. All unexpected, but I can’t wait for today, I’m confident in my training and my coach, so pretty sure I’ll do OK – we’ll have to see!
