December the 4th be with you? – Quirky new independent Shop to open in Andover

Not quite May the 4th but December the 4th be with you as finally after lockdown delays, The Geek Emporium will be open just in time for the festive season, and what a selection they have.

Thanks to the Andover Business Improvement (BID) the Geek Emporium opens on Friday 4th December in Andover. BID had advertised this empty unit in Andover town centre as a start up opportunity for a new or fledgling business. Stuart Gatward, previously with his own small company  trading online and at fairs at weekends came forward. Stuart says, “This is a fantastic opportunity for me, I was looking for a retail opportunity for me business which is currently online and at fairs but could afford the rental of a town centre unit.

My customers are from all over the place and I have a following, both local and further afield and people will travel for the Geek Emporium. I was due to open in mid-August but had to delay it until this Friday because of the second lockdown”.

Steve Godwin, BID Manager says “We are delighted to welcome Stuart and the Geek Emporium to Andover. The BID is working very hard during a difficult trading environment to being vitality to the town. Although across the country we are seeing failures from some large retail chains, there is still strong interest from independent traders such as Stuart. BID also brought to the town, Alex McGarry Studios which is next to the Geek Emporium and Alex recently celebrated her first year of trading in the town.

One of the reasons that people come into town is for the experience and with a healthy number of established and new quirk independent businesses, we are optimistic for the future”

The shop which is located on Waterloo Court has a huge range of comic books, collectables, funko pops, geek merchandise plus loads more from all your favourite films and TV shows such as Star Wars, DC, Marvel, Sonic, Mario, Lord of the Rings. The shop which was due to open earlier this year, had to delay due to the pandemic, but is now all ready ready for Christmas shopping time and will provide a fun place for people of all ages to explore. The shop did a soft opening during the Love Andover Halloween hunt in October and people got a sneak geek peak at the shop.
