“They dealt with a difficult situation brilliantly”, says Mrs Lamont from Andover.

Mrs Lamont was among drivers trapped in traffic on Churchill Way today (30th August 2021) as firefighters from Hampshire and IOW Fire and Rescue Service provided assistance to an incident between the Tesco and Walworth Road roundabouts (A3094, Churchill Way).

A man in his 70s was taken to Basingstoke hospital in a ‘serious condition’ after his vehicle crashed around 11:00am this morning.

Mrs Lamont told Love Andover, “A green Honda Accord was on its side, then there were lots of flashing lights”.

Police, Ambulance and Fire services were on the scene by around 11:10am. Mrs Lamont adds, “The fire service were very good at managing a difficult situation for the driver and the traffic on the road”.

Reports state that the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was seen at the incident.

Hampshire Constabulary added, “We were called at 11.06 this morning to a report of a single vehicle collision on Churchill Way”.

No other casualties were reported.

They confirmed, “The vehicle involved was a green Honda Accord”.

Layton Phillips for 95.9FM Andover Radio reported that the roads were reopened by around 12.35pm while the vehicle was recovered.
