Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard Scheme have teamed up with National Highways to provide you with either a free sticker of magnet to put on your vehicle.
National Highways traffic officers are often first on scene in an emergency on England’s motorways and major A-roads.
Displaying the Sunflower sticker or magnet on the rear of your vehicle will indicate to traffic officers that you or someone in your vehicle has a non-visible disability.
This could mean you or someone in your vehicle may need additional support with; Understanding instructions and communicating needs, staying calm at a time of stress, getting to a place of safety, or moving and recovering an adapted vehicle.
National Highways officers have received extensive training on what the sunflower symbolises and how to respond. So they will ask about what support you may need to help keep you safe.
Andover Radio spoke with an Andover resident who said “This is a really good idea, having a son who is autistic, it can be difficult communication wise with people he doesn’t know.
“This is a little bit of stress that I don’t need to worry about. It’s great that they have had training too. Spreading awareness and being mindful makes it feel a lot more inclusive.”
Showing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower indicates that you have a non-visible disability and that you may need help, support or just a little more time.
And now the Sunflower also means you’ll have the help you need if you break down or need assistance on England’s motorways and major A-roads.
Displaying a sunflower does not mean however, that you will be entitled to park in disabled parking bays without a blue badge.
The sunflower is completely free for all road users in England, all you have to do is register on their website HERE
