Our children see strangers every day. Most of these strangers are nice, normal people, but a few may not be. Parents can protect their children from dangerous strangers by teaching them about strangers and suspicious behaviour, and by taking a few precautions of their own.
You may have seen the posts on local Facebook groups warning parents about an older man who has been seen taking photos of younger children in the Andover area. As parents we can remind our children how to keep safe as they return to school.
The Police have been made aware of the situation.
Stranger danger’ initiatives began in the early 1970s and have been criticised for failing to keep children safe whilst creating a climate of fear and suspicion. National charity Action Against Abduction has developed a child safety education programme called ‘Clever Never Goes’ to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach to educating children.
