The Abel Foundation has received a New Year boost from David Mellor Family Jewellers after the local business donated 10% of each sale from last years Black Friday sale, The Abel Foundation received £539.
Last year was a tough one for everyone and this year hasn’t started off too well either. With charities unable to fundraise traditionally, there have been many great examples of people and businesses thinking outside the box to raise money for our local charities and community groups, and David Mellor Family Jewellers, who are strong supporters of the local community and support many causes didn’t allow the lockdown to stop their efforts.
Last year the annual Black Friday sales were all but driven online as the country was in a national lockdown, leaving many local retailers missing out on vital business in the build up to Christmas. Despite the shops closing, David Mellor Family Jewellers continued to trade online and used this as an opportunity to raise money for The Abel Foundation. In a promotion that offered fantastic discounts off their fabulous products, they also offered that with every sale, they would donate 10% of each sale to the Abel Foundation.
Last week they were delighted to have raised £539, and said via their Facebook page “So, it is with great pleasure that we’ve been able to transfer £539 to The Abel Foundation today and we cannot thank all of our Black Friday shoppers enough for helping us to support this brilliant cause, in a time where charities have been very hard-hit!⠀We hope to do some more fundraising this year and are so appreciative of your support which enables us to do so, so thank you very much”.
The Abel Foundation was created to aid the sufferers of Mitochondrial Disease and help their families deal with this life limiting disease. Currently there is no cure. They run a 24-hour support network via phone, email and text and are on hand to help people when they need support or even just someone to listen and can understand what they go through on a day to day basis.
It is during these times where we must all come together and do what we can to help each other.
