Extinction Rebellion Andover is commited to promoting the values and principles of XR. Extinction Rebellion is a decentralised, international and politically non-partisan movement using non-violent direct action and civil disobedience to persuade governments to act justly on the Climate and Ecological Emergency.
Ten Rebels from XR Zaragoza, Spain, are walking from Portsmouth to COP26 in Glasgow, On Monday 4 th October 2021, after two days of walking, the Rebels will cover the stretch from Winchester to Ibthorpe, via Andover.
They told Andover Radio, ” We are doing this to raise awareness of the Climate Crisis and the enormous emissions cuts needed by all nations of the industrialised world to even come close to reaching their current Paris Agreement commitments. We will then will then join with many other activists and Rebels to hold the members at COP26 in Glasgow to account.”
Some members of local XR groups will accompany the walkers from Winchester. The group will be greeted in Andover town centre and accompanied on their walk through the town. Extinction Rebellion Andover will host the walkers overnight till they continue their walk the next day.
How to get involved or help?
- Walk with the Rebels from the outskirts of Andover to the town centre or even all the way from Winchester.
- Put up a Rebel for the night by offering bed and food
- Come and greet them at the town centre on 4 th October (exact time to be confirmed but probably between 4-5pm)
- Write to counsellors and Kit Malthouse MP to tell them that we want action now to reduce the harm to the climate.
