The Lights, switched back on for autumn!

After a period of darkness The Lights is shining brightly again and the new season brochure is out now

Theatre is back … and comedy, dance, music, speakers of interest and lots more! The Lights new season brochure has landed (on a door mat near you) with shows recommencing from 28 September.

The venue is proud to be back doing what it does best; providing a cultural and artistic hub for Andover and the wider area, and a new season kicking off with comedian Omid Djalili and his aptly named Good Times Tour.

From then on the comedy names keep coming, including Stephen K Amos, Henning Wehn, Kerry Godliman, Hal Cruttenden, Simon Evans, Ivo Graham, Sindhu Vee and more.

If you are seeking a night of laughs without the stand-up then look no further than Crimes in Egypt on 30 September, followed by another in the highly popular Crimes… series in March with Crimes, Camera, Action.  Original material, fiendishly clever plots and fast moving farce in the vein of film noir meets Christie; with laughs littered throughout the dialogue.

Move forward a few decades to the 70’s and the comforting comedy classic, Abigail’s Party in November.  This iconic suburban comedy is as relevant and grotesquely funny today as it has always been.  Full of wicked one-liners and 70s nostalgia and as familiar as a cheese and pineapple hedgehog, Abigail’s Party is an absolute joy and a firm favourite with audiences of all ages.

The brochure covers the period from September through until the end of March, which of course means Christmas too!  Firm favourites, The Pantaloons, are back with Humbugged, a brand new adventure that’s half supernatural time-travel heist and half seasonal sequel to the classic Dickens tale, on 21 and 22 December.

Other spectacular seasonal shows include Neil Sands and his old-time music hall-style variety show, Christmas Memories; beautiful ballet with The Snow Queen from Ballet Theatre UK and Santa’s Best Ever Christmas for the little ones – join Father Christmas and friends in this brand new, festive, musical, interactive adventure to make 2021 Santa’s Best Ever Christmas!  With music and songs, and every child receives a specially wrapped present from Santa – after the most Christmassy, Christmas show ever!  Suitable for families with children aged 2-7 years.

There is just so much music to enjoy too, with gigs from Oas-is, Coldplace and The Phonics; folk from Flats and Sharps, Blair Dunlop and Roving Crows, moody cabaret from Moscow Drug Club and talented tributes ranging from The Take That Experience to The Stones, The Roy Orbison Story, The Best of Frankie Valli, Buddy Holly and the Cricketers and The Sound of Springsteen, to name just a few.

Plus speakers of interest from the world of climbing, cycling and running, family friendly theatre and a little sprinkling of magic from Richard Jones, the only magician to have ever won Britain’s Got Talent.

The bumper programme of shows can be perused at leisure between the pages of The Lights new season brochure, perhaps over coffee and a slice of cake in the re-opened and re-named café bar, The Atrium.  Alternatively all shows can be viewed and booked on-line at www.thelights.org.uk where details can also be found about the venue’s commitment to the See It Safely industry standard kite mark on the Be Covid-19 safe page.
